An Award-Winning Googong Display Home
An Award-Winning Googong Display HomeTake a stroll through Googong’s display village and you’ll find a striking barn-style property that recently landed a national award for design excellence.
Set on 420 square metres at 60 Edward Drive, Googong, the four-bedroom, two-bathroom house was brought to life in 2024. It’s the brainchild of local builders Sunny Homes, a family-owned business with a seriously strong reputation – and the trophies to back it up.
This particular Googong Display Home took out Master Builders’ Display Home of the Year award for the Canberra region in 2025. The design went on to claim the coveted national title.
“We went with a simple, elegant design very focused on sustainability and comfort,” custom builder Sunny says.
“It’s definitely a family property, perfect for parents with a growing household. The design brings light in at every opportunity, so you can enjoy that warm, inviting atmosphere that really feels like home.”
A Welcoming Entrance Designed Around Natural Light
Upon entry, guests are welcomed by soaring 3.6-metre ceilings, angled and dotted with soft downlights. Dark-stained cedar cladding gives way to a bright, welcoming interior palette, deepening the sense of vertical space.
Right by the entry is a versatile rumpus with views of the landscaped front garden and Googong streetscape.
Open-Plan Living for Everyday Family Life
The heart of the home comprises an open-plan kitchen, dining, and family room. Visitors’ eyes are immediately drawn to a hexagonal cutout in the far wall.
“The hexagon doesn’t just look interesting, it has a practical utility as well,” Sunny says.
“It’s a flexible layout, but I like to imagine it as a kids’ lounge. While Mum or Dad are in the kitchen preparing dinner, they can keep an eye on the kids while they play or do their homework.
A Family Room Made for Relaxation
“I love the family room. We installed four big skylights that are beautiful rain or shine – you can lie down on the couch and relax while you watch the stars or the clouds go by.”

A Designer Kitchen with Understated Luxury
The designer kitchen is one of understated luxury. Rich stone benchtops extend into a feature splashback, contrasting beautifully with timber herringbone floorboards underfoot. Home chefs will love the fully equipped butler’s pantry and curved island bench.
All four bedrooms are generously sized with built-in wardrobes. The parents’ retreat features a dresser nook and contemporary ensuite. The remaining bedrooms share a family bathroom with a separate toilet for privacy and convenience.
Outdoor Entertaining in a North-Facing Alfresco
For the outdoor entertainers, a north-facing covered alfresco offers the perfect spot to gather family and friends. The surrounding gardens are well established, with plenty of lawn space and a water feature.
Googong is a $1.8 billion masterplanned community with a high level of amenity and deep ties to family life. The area continues to grow rapidly, with three new neighbourhoods just announced and further expansion on the horizon for its vibrant town centre.
About 10 minutes from Queanbeyan and half an hour from Canberra, the community is very social and completely self-contained.
“We wanted this home to reflect Googong’s natural beauty and strong sense of community,” Sunny says.
“Googongians love to get out and about in the sunshine, which of course is what we’re all about too! It made sense to build one of our display homes here and show the community just how special their forever home can be.”
